Empowering PwDs: Leather Handicraft Exhibition in Chennai

On World Disability Day, an exhibition at Valluvar Kottam, Chennai, showcased handcrafted products by PwDs trained by the Leather Sector Skill Council, GIID Tambaram. Senior officials and visitors actively supported the initiative by purchasing products made by these talented candidates.
On the occasion of World Disability Day, an exhibition was organized at Valluvar Kottam in Chennai to highlight the skills, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). PwDs trained by the Leather Sector Skill Council (LSSC) at GIID Tambaram actively participated in the event and proudly showcased a wide range of handcrafted leather products. These products, made with precision and dedication, reflected the rigorous training and skill development provided under the LSSC’s specialized programs.
Throughout the exhibition, senior government officials, dignitaries, and several visitors interacted with the PwD candidates, appreciating their craftsmanship and the efforts behind each product. Many visitors enthusiastically purchased the items displayed, extending strong support to the artisans and recognizing their potential to contribute meaningfully to the leather sector.
The Leather Sector Skill Council continues to provide sustained handholding support to these candidates, guiding them in production, quality improvement, and market linkage. Through skill training and empowerment initiatives, LSSC aims to help PwDs become self-reliant, confident, and capable of building sustainable livelihoods in the leather industry.
